Choosing a Finish for your printed Fine Art Photo
The variety of finishes available can be confusing. Here are some general guidelines to help you choose a look for your print. When cares for properly, any of these prints are fade resistant for up to 100 years!
Matte finish is great for black & whites as it tends to show details and darker blacks. It often makes the image look older or as if it is a pencil drawing. We print on Kodak Edge Paper.
Glossy finish is typical for snapshots printed at your local store but it is not ideal for fine art as it tends to cause a distracting glare. We print on Kodak Edge Paper.
Lustre finish offers the best of both worlds; the color saturation of glossy and the fingerprint resistance of matte, without the glare associated with glossy. Lustre has a satin-like sheen and a modestly textured surface which you can see when the light angle is just right. Lustre is printed on Kodak Supra Endura paper, which is heavier than matte.
Metallic finishes are a new and exciting choice for eye-popping, bold colors. With a glossy finish and unique metallic appearance, these prints have extra visual interest and depth. They are printed on long-lasting Kodak Professional Endura Metallic paper. This paper uses a proprietary combination of film laminate layers that produce striking, three-dimensional, lasting images on an ultra-bright background. The effect is sometimes described as "chrome on paper." You'll see extreme sharpness, brightness, and color saturation with an intense black density that increases its appeal. The proprietary laminate layers also increase the durability and tear resistance of the final print, increasing the opportunities for display applications.
